Mother’s Day is always the second Sunday in May, this year it falls on May 9th,  It’s a day we celebrate our love for Mother’s everywhere.  I love that I get to celebrate with my Mom.  Usually dinner, flowers and a day out is what I have planned for my Mom and I always get to wish the most amazing mother ever, mine, a very special Mother’s Day in this column.
 
Like most, our month is slowing down in anticipation of the summer. That doesn’t mean it comes to a stop.  We still have lots of fun events out and about.  We will be at the Sensational Senior Expo at North Collier Park in Naples on Thursday, May 6th.  I hope to see you all there. 
 
The American Cancer Society is hosting a Relay for Life in North Ft. Myers on May 14.  The relay is a 24 hour event in which participants agree to participate in the all night event by having walkers and runners on the track at all times during the event.  My good friend, Deputy Jarrod Cantrell is organizing a Relay for Life team in North Ft. Myers.  I am participating in that all night long walk and I am seeking sponsors.  If cancer has touched your life in some way, and would like to make a donation, please make your check out to ACS-Relay for Life and send it to me in care of Senior Life. It’s a wonderful event for a great organization.
 
I attended opening night at the Broadway Palm a few weeks ago and saw The Ring of Fire.  Absolutely one of the best shows I have seen there.  Check it out if you get a chance.
 
Our new community affairs editor, Judith Gannon Bircher met with the representatives of the Women’s Legacy Fund of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation at the home of Lalai Hamric recently to learn more about their “Angel” program. This is a wonderful endeavor to raise endowments for the Women’s Legacy Fund who’s project this year is Crime Prevention against women and families. They help to empower women who have no voice and resources to protect themselves against crimes perpetrated upon them. Each Angel nomination not only recognizes the honoree’s outstanding contribution of service to others but also helps fund this program to bring needed help into the community. You will enjoy this article and will be inspired to show the world your special Angel by nominating someone with this honor. Since Mother’s Day is coming up wouldn’t this be a great present for Mom instead of the standard roses or bath robe.
